Retiring as a Source Engine Level Designer.

Simply no. Unfortunately I do bring the sad news that I am currently retiring as a Source Engine level designer for this moment so I can focus on my last year at College so that I can get into a good University and get a job after graduating @ Uni. Unfortunately I will not be continuing work on my rp_westfield map but if anyone is willing to update it please contact me before you start making any modifications to it so we can discuss the subject in depth.

So what does this mean? Will I be quitting level design forever? No, this means I'll be expanding my knowledge in other game engines such as Unreal Engine 4, simply just because Source Engine is out-dated and after playing around with Unreal Engine 4 I must say this is one of the best engines I've ever seen and I will definitely using this engine from now on.
Now, that being said, if indeed Source 2 comes out for Counter-Strike, HL, TF, L4D. I will be coming back to look into their updated Hammer Editor and find out if I would enjoy it better than UE4.

Yes, it is all about the money, because in this society that's the only way to survive and have a happy life (money = treating yourself = better chance of happiness occurring) and for those that don't believe £30k+ a year is the regular payment for level designers...

$50k = roughly £30k

I created this topic to let you guys know that I won't limit myself to 1 specific engine that will probably get me nowhere other than a good portfolio and working @ valve.
I will do whatever it takes in my life to succeed, I will take any opportunity that I see fit and the fact that UE4 is free and I have a lot of spare time now means that I should use this time wisely before I turn into a certain age were my parents will say, no more money for you, find yourself a job, which will occupy most of my time.
I'll change the title name if it's too much of a bait click.

You guys can hate me and say boo, but I believe this is the right step towards succeeding in my life as a level designer.

I was just fucking around. Do what you love and money will come with it. If you need advice finding a job throw me a PM, i left about half a year ago for the same thing but as a automotive engineer. Level designing jobs are very, very hard to find right now but good luck.
