This month we're launching MoonShade on CSS, which is essentially a backport of our old CS:GO RP server.
Why? There should still be a way to play the original MoonShade, even if a server on CSS was not in line with everyone's wishes.
On the bright side, we have some new killer features to show off.
Brand New Map
And it's beautiful. Arguably the best map we have been on to date. Credits to Hinzy for creating this beauty for poseidonservers.net.
Automated Donations
Type /donate in-game to try out our new donation system. We're slowly rolling out perks until the system is fully automated.
If you are a Patron, you will already have your benefits. Bonus content will continue to be served on our Patreon. Thank you for the support as always.
Map Restarts
Thanks to hopping off of CS:GO, map restarts no longer need to be done every day. Map restarts now happen every three days.
You will respawn where you left off before the restart.
Almost Feature-Complete
Though we lack the new weapons and player models from CS:GO, the core elements you know and love from our server are still here. You can plant drugs, buy a house, rob NPCs, bunnyhop, drive a car, and so on.
In the coming weeks, we aim to iron out as many bugs as possible.
But What about CS2?
Counter-Strike 2 had a rough launch for the community server scene.
Workshop map support arrived a month late, most casual content is still missing from the game at the time of writing, and all maps alongside plugins must be remade from scratch. There isn't even a proper in-game GUI to join servers, you often find yourself needing to do it through third-party websites because the Steam server browser isn't good enough anymore. Yikes.
Hopping between game engines with over a decade of drastic changes is a big deal. Considering it's pretty much still in an unofficial open-beta period. Source 2 is here, but the game isn't ready for us yet.
How can you help?
If you wish to contribute to the future of our development, reach out to us. Whether you map, code, produce artwork, videos, and more. We want to hear from you.
MoonShade on CSS FAQ
How do I join MSG on CSS?
- The IP is cssrp.moonshade.gg:27015. Add it to your favorites using the Steam or in-game server browser.
You can also click here to join.
How long will MSG on CSS be supported?
- As long as we can. Traditionally, the RP on CS:GO stayed online from 2015 to 2020, then again in 2023 until CS2's release. Our original server must be preserved, so we want to stay online forever.
How frequent are map changes?
- Depending on reception, maps may run for up to seven weeks. Other maps could span as short as four weeks.
Why CSS and not CS2?
- We're not ready. We want to be on CS2 but need your help. It all starts by playing and supporting us on CSS.
Do my money and items from MoonShade on CS:GO transfer over CS:S?
- No, everyone's money and items have reset. However, if you unboxed a cloak last year, you are eligible to receive it back in the future.
I donated last year. Will I receive my Donor & Supporter benefits?
- If you were previously a Donor, please ask an admin in-game or make a forum post requesting your benefits back.
Closing Thoughts
Last year we proved the world still wants to see MoonShade exist by exceeding expectations during the final months of CS:GO. This is about continuing the legacy.
The future is frightening. Most games have moved on from the third-party server-hosted model. But a familiar server should act as a candle in the darkness of the unknown ahead.
